Default Need input on a lift setup

OK.. I'm a relatively new jeep owner and a very recent forum member, so cut me some slack for the long post and stupid questions...

Been surfing the forum for some time for info on lift kits and think I've narrowed down the setup that would work best for me but I still have a number of questions that I hope you guys can sort out before I go spending a boat load of cash.

I currently have a fully stock 2009 4dr unlimited with 6speed, trac lock, factory towing package, and 17in rims. Jeep is a daily driver with light weekend off-road use (mostly beach and some mud trails). Also occasionally take 500+ mi road trips and tow small 20 ft skiff (weighs about 2000 lbs with trailer).

I'm thinking about purchasing a TeraFlex 2.5" coil lift (full kit, with shocks), 33" MT ATZ mounted on the 17 in stock rims.

Questions:

Once the lift is installed, will I need to add or do anything else to the suspension (besides torquing bolts) to keep the jeep tracking straight and keep the axles and suspension in the correct alignment?

Will there be any noticeable power loss by going to 33s from stock tires even with the slightly larger gears and rear axle on the towing package?

I read that the MT ATZs now come in a narrow size (11.5) that will fit the stock rims. Is this correct? Will I still need to install wheel spacers to prevent 33s from rubbing?

How will the 33s and lift affect my onboard computer (speedo ?, ABS ?, Low pressure alarm ?, throttle ?, ESC ?, etc)?

If I have the dealer/installer adjust the OBC to account for the larger tires, will all systems then work correctly again? What, if anything, will not work correctly even after the OBC is adjusted?

Will I still be able to tow the boat without overly straining the drivetrain or noticeable loss of power?

Will the larger tires and lift make towing more difficult?

Thanks.

you may find it necessary to re-center your steering wheel but aside from that and re-torquing your bolts, no. with just 2.5" of lift, you should be good to go with what the kit comes with.

in my opinion, no. sure there will be some loss but not enough to matter with just 33's.

personally, i would and being that i would, i would also recommend that you just get the regular width tires. although they are narrower, they are taller and you may still find that you have rubbing issues at a full turn.

How will the 33s and lift affect my onboard computer (speedo ?, ABS ?, Low pressure alarm ?, throttle ?, ESC ?, etc)?
your speedometer/odometer will be off just a bit but an aev procal, superchips flashpaq or hypertec can correct this for you. as far as everything else goes, you may find it necessary to recenter your steering wheel to prevent your esp from going off but that's about it.

If I have the dealer/installer adjust the OBC to account for the larger tires, will all systems then work correctly again? What, if anything, will not work correctly even after the OBC is adjusted?
your dealer will not be able to assist you here. they can only work up to a 32" tire.

yes

Will the larger tires and lift make towing more difficult?
you've got a 6-speed and i doubt you will see much if any difference.

Just a suggestion, but browse some of the other TF 2.5 coil threads and you'll see that people are getting somewhere closer to 3-3.5 inches of lift from those coils - not 2.5".

I would suggest you open the Suspension FAQ's and read the "what components do I need for a 3" lift" and "what is caster, how much do I need" questions. Which components you decide on is a preference, and everyone will have a different opinion, but knowing up front what you could run into is much better than not knowing and being hit with more and more costs afterward...

Default thanks.

thanks for the welcome and the quick response! The info is very helpful. Think I'm ready to make the purchase. Now just have to find a reputable shop in my area to do the work right.

Happy to be a new member to the forum.

Nthinuf, thanks for the additional info. that's very good to know. One of the reasons why I decided not to go with OME was because of posts stating that the 2" lift was producing upwards of 4" and I didn't want to deal with the added issues of the lift heights over 2.5". I'll check out the FAQs on the subject.
