What is up with the big hole in the front for the fairlead?

Looks pretty nice (minus the hole where the fairlead is) but still I'm opting for designing and building my own...

I have non stock fenders so it would not work for me anyway. I have the 1st run of Warn bumpers and I was kinda disappointed in the quality of the black texture. Pitted to bare metal VERY quickly.

There are much better looking bumpers in that price range

I still am not a fan of the full width front bumper. And really not a fan of the huge hole around the fairlead.
