The clevis mounts I have used allow the strap to swivel and use a spring tensioner to take up some of the slack in the strap so its not flopping around so much. They do make adjusting a snap.
Depends on your shocks, and how hard you drive. Using your shock as a droop limit on articulation while crawling won't hurt anything. When you get into dynamic droop (jumping, whoops, ect) you are putting a lot of pressure on the bearing block. Cheap shocks are all welded up and worst case you can pull them apart. Higher end 2.0s (Fox,King,Radflo, ect) have a rolled ring that can jam into the bearing block, making it impossible to remove without damaging the block and shock body. Higher end 2.5s have a big thick snap ring and resists it a lot more. But on a race car, you better have them.
The shocks I run are 800 each on my JK, but I'm not worrying about straps due to the way I drive it. MY TJ has coilovers and bypasses, and I drive it HARD, and have straps all the way around.
Here's what happens on a wreck where your strap breaks. This is a Fox 2.5 bearing block.
