Default Noob Question: Long Arm Suspension

Sorry for this n00b question but this is my first modded Jeep and the lift was installed by the dealer (so I'm still learning about it).

Could someone explain to me the benefits over a long arm suspension (besides more flex?) and also how can I tell if the suspension lift they installed on my Jeep is a long arm system?

If your Jeep has a long arm kit on it, you should have new lower control arm mounts welded or bolted onto your frame rails and they should be very noticable (typically they would be a different color than the factory black frame). Also, while a good shop will hide everything that has been cut off on the out side of the frame rails, most will leave the remaining brackets alone on the inside and these can be easily seen.

As far benefits goes, a long arm will provide a greater arc in the travel of your axle and this typically provides a more comfortable ride. However, the JK's already come with longer control arms from the factory and so far, I haven't seen the need for a long arm setup unless you are sitting at 4"-6" and are riding on 37's or bigger.
