notching tranny skid, is it self explanatory?
Getting ready to order my lift (TF 2.5 coil with shocks) next week, and trying to get all my ducks in a row before it comes in. It does not seem that there is a consensus as to if I will have issues with my drive shaft and/or boot, so I'm thinking I should just go ahead and notch out the skid while I have it up and the tools out to alleviate any potential headaches later on down the road. I will eventually replace the skid and/or the drive shaft, but that is not in the budget at the moment.
Once I am under it, will it be obvious as to where and how much I need to notch out? If not, does anybody have any pictures of a succesfully notched skid so I have a reference? I searched, but did not find any. It is a 2 door auto, btw. Thanks for the assistance. |
yeah, it's pretty obvious and if you look on the passenger side of the skid, you will even see how it should look when all is said and done. yep, chrysler blew it big time and placed an otherwise useful dimple and notch on the wrong side of the skid.
This is a shot of the automatic transmission skid plate as it would look if you lowered it to the ground and you were standing in front of it. I thought that I read a post of yours in the past informing that notching the skid is ineffective as the stock shaft hits the tranny pan first. So, is notching necessary or not?

Just had to notch mine, I've got a 1350HD DS and it showed two nice score marks as a result of touching the tranny skid. Not hard to notch it out...wish I would have thought about some of the ramifications of going higher with my lift cuz with the 3" lift I was running it didn't touch but since going higher it does. :sad2:
