Default The old question of 35 in or 37 in

I have a 2014 Sahara with automatic tranny. I am currently running 35 12.50 18 Nitto Trail grapplers. I have re-geared to 4.88 and added lockers but haven't done anything to the Dana 30. I wheel pretty hard at Uwharrie 5 to 6 times a year with no issues. I'm thinking of going with 37 12.50 18 Pro Comp extreme 2 tires. They only way 6 more pounds than the Nittos. Want some advice if it will make a big difference in wear and tear or front axle issues from what I'm currently running. Thanks!

It's not the weight so much as the diameter of the tires that makes the biggest impact. There is a lot to consider when jumping from 35s to 35s.

That said, repeat after me. "In Artec we truss!"

If you can do the work yourself and are able to fix it if something breaks then i say you will be fine. I wheel pretty damn hard and run heavy 37" mud grapplers on a dirty 30 I trussed and gussetted and I've yet to have problems, other than shafts break but those were due to extenuating circumstances.

What lift are you running now with 35s, and planning with 37s ? A 2.5" lift with 35s can use the stock driveshaft. With a 3-4" lift, the stock driveshaft can get over-extended --- at least this was true on 2007+ JKs, I presume is still true on 2014 model.

I have a rough country 3.25 in lift and flat fenders. I have plenty of room for the 37's. Just don't want to break anything

I had 37's on a d30 that was built and had no issues, My buddy on the other hand had 37's on a mostly stock 30 and blew a u-joint on a speed bump doing less than 20mph. 37's on a d30 no bueno if you wheel hard.

Truss it and keep stock axle shafts and driveshaft. I ran a D39 Ttussed with 5.13's and an Aussie locker and destroyed not front axle shafts. I knew it was a matter of time so I carried a replacement set. I have a buddy running 40's on his Dirty 30 with 5.13 and an Aussie locker and he just carries stock replacement shafts.
