Ox locker experience Pro & Con?
Have a 2012 two door, manual trans JK Sport. Lots of fun and I really like the vehicle. Most of the time the factory brake-lock function provides plenty of traction, but typically I add some sort of limited slip or locker to my 4x4 vehicles.
Have become interested in the Ox locker, particularly for the rear Dana 44. What do you guys think about it? Anything wrong with the Ox? Also - which method for activating it? The simple cable setup appeals to me, but is there an advantage to setting it up for air or electrical activation? Was thinking about doing the rear diff first, and tackling the front diff later, if I decided I needed/wanted a front locking diff. Thanks, CW |
I recently had to make this decision too and went with ARB for my front locker. OX have a tough locker but the main reason was the engagement method of the Ox lockers. They have three versions like you said but all three still have some bugs to work out. I know Ox is working on it but untill the do I felt more comfortable going with ARB. I mounted the compressor next to the master cylinder and it works great. The locker is almost instant with a flick of the switch and unlocks just as easy. hope this helps out.

I've seen guys run OX that love it and it runs flawlessly. One is auto and a couple are cable. One thing they are adamant about it the fact you can run it with simple tools if all else fails. You don't have to worry about a bad air line or broken cable. I've never seen one fail and it seems to be a solid locker. Even the cheap lunchbox auto made a huge difference in his climbs.

A bunch of my TJ buddies run OX lockers and have nothing but great things to say about them.
They are bullet proof and you don't have to worry about electrical or air problems. Simple mechanical operation and there is even a way to unlock if you happen to rip the cable out. Con? you have an additional shifter in the cab. |
Good stuff guys. Thank you.
