Default p285 70 17 or lt285 75 17 falken wildpeak

hello,

just sold my 35" mtr's, looking for something a bit tamer. '08 2dr 4.10's 6 speed.

has anyone wheeled p rated tires? i'm looking at the falken wildpeak atw3 and toyo open country's. i don't beat on the thing, but when i wheel there's plenty of sharp rocks. I read mixed reviews, some guys never have a problem some have nothing but problems.

has anyone gone from a lt tire to a p rated tire and can explain the difference? I'm talking 1st hand, as in "it wasn't noticeable, the 15lbs per tire doesn't really matter" or "it's dramatic don't buy LT tires unless you need to..."

i got out of the mtr's thinking a shorter, skinnier, less agressive tire would be lighter, but a 285/75-17 weights just as much.

does the less agressive AT tread affect mpg and driveability just as much as the weight?

and in all my searching i havnt found pics of a 285 70 17 next to a 285 75 17, am i missing something?

IMHO the best way to have tire failures is to run a P tire Off road. Should run an LT.

Yup... this ^^^

If you're looking for something tamer but also good for offroad, I recommend BFG KO2s in the size of your preference.

285/75r17 is a 35". That's why the weight is nearly the same, it's about an inch skinnier than a normal 35" though.

Also, I run Royo open country at2 P285/70r17. They've been great for me so far. I've had them about a year, two trips to Kansas Rocks off-road park and one trip to Colorado and I've had no issues. Less road noise than my old BFG all terrains, similar off-road traction better on road traction.

I love mine, with a lift they fit under the fenders and don't need spacers but are limited in tire selection.

No. it isn't even a 34" as most manufacturers list a diameter of less than 34", like 33.9"

This. I run the Toyos in 285/75R17, and like them a lot. They run pretty close to advertised at 33.75 on the ground under a bumper with tire carrier and the back loaded with camping and hunting gear. They also wear great.

What it is also is a great tire size. I was on the fence yesterday when I got my 285/70s, trying to decide if I wanted to go the 285/75 route. In the end I decided to match tire size with the tires I've set aside for my upcoming trailer project and run all the same.
