The best place to get the Superchips Flashpaq is from the people who support this forum.

I got mine from Northridge. It makes a noticeable difference. Good gains for the money.

Just wonder what does as flashpaq what Jeep couldn't do? In other words, what's the downside? I mean there is no such thing as a free lunch (and having to eat it to).

Programmers have several settings to customize it to your needs. If you want performance, towing, rock crawling, etc. The factory program is middle of the road. It is designed to do many things but none of them exceptionally!

You don't see the "Sponsoring Manufacturer & Vendor Forum" ??

It's only 4 up from this Modified area. Open that, and you'll see a vendors list.

Not like it's hidden or anything...

That's an interesting question. I'm not sure why most manufacturers leave power on the table. But most do. I suspect they may have some unknown parameters they need to operate within (i.e. meeting emissions standards across 50 states and multiple continents). They also weigh in factors like NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) and might give up a little ignition timing for the sake of engine smoothness. That's just a wild assed guess on my part though. Or maybe it's a simple case of the engineer who did the calibrations being overworked or possibly under-talented. But whatever the reason is, many major manufacturers' calibrations often leave room for improvement.

Look at how much power can be had by tuning turbo applications (Subarus, Mitsubishi, turbo diesels, etc). You have to ask youself why they left that much power untapped. Some people think the manufacturers do this to ensure the car is reasonable to insure knowing full well that the ultimate owner will uncork the power they engineered there in the first place.

There is a funny story about the JDM Nissan Skylines. I don't have all the details handy so excuse me if the numbers are off. They were like 290 HP stock. By removing a small vaccuum restrictor in one of the hoses to the turbo wastegate solenoid the output jumped up by something like 100 horsepower. Every single fitting under the hood was black except this one which was bright yellow. So basically the car was engineered at 400 HP, but then for legal/insurance/emission/fuel economy reasons it was nerf'd down to 290. But they wanted to make sure the owners would easily find that vaccuum restrictor.

Yes, I buy most of my stuff through David at Northridge. I often don't have a lot of time to research every last thing I bolt on my Jeep and he takes care of me with quality parts and answers my questions after the sale. I also couldn't buy a decent lunch for the price differences I've seen elsewhere after your done playing the shell game of shipping charges (Northridge has free shipping charges on orders above $100).

Anyway, I do buy things other places but I always make an effort through forum sponsors first because this place doesn't exist without them.
