Pinch Seam
So I cut my pinch seam and Rubi rails last night (2012 with 35's) and I was wondering why everyone used jbweld or some other filler on the little hole in the body. On mine there is a fiberglass looking material and before I cut it it seemed like this material was going to a drain. Is this a drain for the body? Should I leave it open and just make sure it is primed and painted? or should I fill it completely? Most videos show it being filled completely. I am hesitant to do that as it wasn't filled before the cut.
Any insight would be great. |
Either way is fine really. Im pretty sure the hole was only there at the factory so they can inject some expanding foam insulation.

Attachment 616608 This worked perfect. Used tape to keep it in. It will dry preety fast, sand prime and paint.Attachment 616609Sawzall works best with a metal blade if you have one.

Excuse me for stepping in, but how much of the seam do you cut off. I have a 12 with 2.5 lift and 35s.... |
Clearance can vary by specific build, stuff the tires and look/measure. If there is no contact between the tire and seam, you still need to note whether the bumpstops are contacting, and/or the coils or shocks are fully compressed, to get an idea if the tire is still able to move up further.

Find some uneven ground and flex your suspension and leave it that way and get out ( in park with parking brake on :) ) That will give you and ideal of how much clearance you will need. I also marked the same circumference of the tire so it looks even cosmetically. You can also look and the newer jeeps as they have the seam already trimmed from the factory.

I cut 2in by 2in and filled the hole with JB weld. Filling the hole prevents mud, dirt and grime from getting in and rusting your Jeep from the inside out
