It's damn near possible to do anything, but will it look good over time like some suggested, who knows.

I figure they would last long enough for someone to save their lunch money and buy some after market flares

But I would go to a body shop and just ask them, they probably got some tricks up their sleeves through years of business that would help you.

I cut mine, i was hesitant but I figured worse case scenario, they mess up and I just paint them black or so. I used a hacksaw blade on the fronts, then stepped up to a skil saw on the rears, (much quicker and just as clean), and used the door edging. No chips, cracks or anything

A hand jigsaw works great. It doesn't heat the plastic like some of the faster moving blades. A wood cutting blade seems to work best. Then apply the door edge guard like WOL write-up. Because you have paint on yours I would use painters tape to keep the edge of the paint down.
