preferred welding method for long arm kit
 

I would like to get some input on welding uphill or downhill for control arm brackets. I used to be good at most welding processes but if you dont do it for years on end, you tend to forget. Anyways I am currently putting on a RK x-factor long arm and need to weld in the control arm mounts. One issue is that the RK stuff is all 1/4'' and the frame is thinner but my biggest question/ concern is: uphill or downhill for the weld? I know most people say uphill for structural things but I really wont have much of a visual on the weld puddle from underneath the vehicle. How do most shops weld these on? I was thinking about putting a slight bevel on the RK brackets so my penetration is better if I were to go downhill.

I would call RK and ask but they arent open now and I'm looking to weld tomorrow and doing some searching hasnt uncovered a good answer. FYI I am using a Miller 250 with .035 wire and 75/25 mix. still trying to dial in the machine setting by testing what works.

It really does not matter as long as you get proper penetration.

Hi. I also need to weld my car. I want to do it myself, my car is not too new, so I want to learn from it, but I don't even have welding. Who will advise what, or is it better to turn to specialists, let them do everything.

Yes, send it to someone that knows what they are doing. Welding takes time and practice and understanding of the heat settings. A good helmet so you can see what you are welding and muscle memory from practice is needed to get good results.
