PSC ram location on XD60/DTD setup
 

Been scratching my head to resolve the following issue and will appreciate any knowledgeable input.
My Dynatrac XD60 front axle is 72.5" wide and comes with the 1550 large Aluminum knuckles, requires an 8" PSC ram and my setup includes Evo's Double Throw Down suspension.
The 1550 knuckles have a "semi" high steer arms position which is higher than stock but lower than other true high steer knuckles such as the Reids.
The common PSC ram location is lower than the tie rod and very much exposed to trail damage being the lowest part on the front.
I'm looking for another mounting solution to tack it higher and/or even skid it, but the only skid I can find is EVO's and ORE say it only works with the PR60 and doesn't fit the XD60.

Looks like a clean solution but are there any drawbacks?
Too much tension on the draglink and joints maybe?

I have a XD60 but without the Aluminum knuckles as I wanted real brakes not Dodge 1500's.
Not worried about the tie rod taking a hit as its 1.75" 7075-T651 solid.
I first had the tie rod flipped but I would have to had the ram mounted under and like you didn't want to do it.
As far as mounting up inside that was not a option as I didn't want to use Heims.

Anybody out there with a ram assist on a Dynatrac XD60?

You could run a HD welded steel diff cover and mount the ram to it.

ust received those photos from Dynatrac. They came up with this new solution but I'm not sure if it works with the DTD brackets on my axle.
It may be possible to mount it a couple of inches toward the driver's side but I'm still waiting to hear back from their engineers.
Nice clean solution at least for those of you who don't run DTD.

Hey preeb, what did you end up going with? I now own the JK in the first pic you posted. I'm pretty sure ORE fabbed up a custom XD60 version of their ram skid for the previous owner. Don't see why you couldn't have a similar one fabbed up. It has proven its worth to me a few times, lol.

Hey JKUR07,

I remember that build. IIRC it was done at Dynatrac and the skid added later.
This skid is Mel's (EVO/ORE) solution for his own D60 axle hi steer kit that comes with the older steel knuckles (not the 1550's we both have).
I assume it is a one off skid he did for a "special friend" because he refused to do it for me.. LOL (-;
Anyway, rethinking the whole thing I'm glad I didn't do it because the ram location is still low and the skid only makes the clearance even lower.
I love the high clearance design done on the 1550 knuckles (except for the tight proximity of the knuckle arms..) and would like to keep it.

I ran the rig aggressively for a while using the stock Dynatrac tierod and oem draglink without a ram but used a large PSC XD-II box.
Steering was ok (not perfect!) except for a few situations against larger rocks with lockers on where it wouldn't move before I break the draglink.
I also felt the draglink flexing too much and completely bent and destroyed the Dynatrac DOM Tie rod... not impressed at all.

So I replaced the draglink and tierod with the RK and so far so good.
The aluminum rod is flexing and easily carries the entire weight of the front (I jack both front wheels under this rod when lifting the Jeep).
The draglink has zero flexing and steering is now better with less worries that the big XD-II box will bend the flimsy oem draglink.

As for the ram assist, I don't need it for 98% of what I do and I can probably get away without one but I'm currently doing an interesting project testing new ideas for the ram setup.
My XD-II box is already drilled and tapped for the ram insert and I'll be testing an 8" cylinder between the knuckle and a special fablicated bracket (sorry.. no photos yet) on top of the pumpkin.
I will also implement a ram hydraulic bypass so I can turn it into a stabilizer when not off roading.
