Default Ram Air Snorkles

I've got an AEV snorkle and its worked great so far in deep mud. One question I have is that I live in Seattle so it rains everyday. Seems to me the RAM sucks in more rain than the stock airbox does. Do I need to be turning the RAM around every time I drive in the rain, or does the system somehow keep the rain out?

I attended a presentation with and aev rep last year and he explained the technology behind the ram air. It was designed to always face forward. There is four slits down the sides of the bottom of the ram air head. These slits allow water to drain out as the engine pulls the air in. As the water and air are seperated in a spiral action the water runs down the sides of the cyclinder and out the slits. You can also see a ridge that goes around the cyclinder to ensure the water drains out those slits. I have had no problems with it just north of you in the Vancouver area.

Cool. I thought those slits were just for tightening down the ram.

Live on the Texas Gulf Coast and we get some pretty heavy thunderstorms and tropical storms and have been wondering just how well those slits work. Thanks for the post.

Thanks, I was wondering about the RR, I'm about to order. Already got a quote from my friendly local powder coater. That was the only consern holding me off.

how about heavy wet snow? will this cause the opening to cake up and become clogged at hwy speeds? i also noticed that in order to use the pre filter, a bit of material is supposed to be cut off of the top of the snorkel. does this make it impossible to swap between the ram air and pre filter? this came to mind the other day while doing snow removal after our back to back blizzards anybody with experience?
