Default Re-gearing opinions...

Ok, i have been running 3.21's with my 33" tires. re-gearing is near the top of my list. i was going to with 4.88's. i have an opportunity for a good deal on Sahara take offs which are 4.10's. i dont plan on, nor do i want, a tire bigger than the 33's.

so, is it worth the bargain? any opinion is appreciated.

X2. I have been running 33's with 4.10 and can hardly notice the difference from the stock Rubi tires.

33's and 4.10's here, I'm more than pleased with the performance...very good combination in my opinion...if 4.56's cost same as take off 4.10's I woulda gone 4.56, but 4.10's can be had for a very reasonable cost so that seals the deal in my opinion

With a 6 speed 4.10s and 33s will be about perfect in my opinion. My rubi with 32s and 4.10s I felt was slightly overgeared for on road use and just about perfect for offroad use.

I'm now running 35s with 4.10s and the 6 speed. It's actually better on road. 1st and 2nd gear aren't so short now so I'm not getting left behind at traffic lights while I row through 3 gears before I hit 25 MPH. I also cruise at 75 MPH at 2,500 RPM instead of 3,000 RPM. But I'll probably step up to 4.56s to get my offroad capability back.

So long story short if you never, never, never plan to go bigger than 33s I think 4.10s are perfect for a 6 speed. With 4.56s and 33s I think you'll find 1st and 2nd annoying short coming off the stoplight and you'll find yourself turning over 3,000 RPM at 75 MPH on the highway.

4.88's are going to put you up in the rpm range. buuut once u get 33's the jeep bug will bite you and you'll move up to 35's. so if u dont' do a lot of highway driving i'd go with 4.88's b/c it won't be long till ur at 35's

If I lived at sea level, I'd be OK with 33's and 4.10's but I'm at 9,000 feet and they don't cut it when driving up to 12,000 feet and back down. 35's are next, so I put in 5.13's and I'm running them with 33's right now. Pretty nice setup right now! At 70 mph, I'm at 2600 RPM and I'm actually getting better milage because the engine doesn't have to work as hard. I was even passing people climbing the Eisenhauer tunnel! Overdrive has also become a usable gear range again!

If you can get a good deal on the 4.10s go for it. I have no complaints with my 33's and 4.10 setup.
