Rear locker won't disengage
Hi all,
Just went wheelin today and my rear locker won't disengage on my rubi. When I turn corners my new tires :sad2: go cherp, cherp, cherp. Any suggestions or tricks to get it to disengage? Am I hurting the diff? Thanks Matt |
Drop it in 4-lo then get to some level ground where you have 50ft in reverse + forward motion. Flip the switch to turn them off (press up once or twice) the in dash locker light should begin flashing.
Drive forward and then backwards giving it barely any gas until the light turns off. I usually perform this maneuver when turning the lockers off/on, I've let it coast in neutral a few times too. It usually takes me no more than 3-5min, just be gentle on the gas. |
Thanks for the reply but can't get the darn thing to disengage. Tried what you suggested for about 10min. Guess i have to go to the dealer tomorrow.

turn it off on the dash and go in reverse. always works for me

i believe that this is exactly why im getting manual lockers

I had this happen to me once. I drove it home about 10 miles and it would not dissenguage. I tried the forward/backward trick with no luck. It was recommended to me that I drive forward in 4low while turning sharp quick turns left and right. I gave it a shot and it worked!

Dealer had to replace my sensor and carrier before mine would release:sad2:

Mine is going to the dealer to have this checked out on Wed. I'm sure I'll have a fight on my hands to have it repaired uder warranty. This happens to me everytime I lock the rear. takes quite a bit of driving for the locker to disengage.

Well gosh darn it, the dealer is replacing an eletric coil (or something like that) in the rear diff. No fight at all. I asked if it would be covered by warranty and they said yes, it's an electrical problem not a mechanical one caused by lift or tires! I'm still in shock. I'll get the exact part description and number when I get it back tomorow evening or Friday.

Congrats...now thats some great news....in my old Tacoma I had to back up a lil to disengage. Seems like a common practice.:yup:
