Default regear

Would like to hear from anyone who has done a regear on their jk on the approximate price? When we bought our 2012 sport it was in sorry of a hurry and we ended up with 3.21s. I'm going to be putting New tires on(33s) to see how the difference feels. Hopefully I won't feel the need to but if I do I was curious as to how much I'm looking at. And as my daily driver what would you recommend 3.73s or 4.10s? I don't plan to put anything bigger than 33s on. Thanks

I paid just a hair over $1000, and that was Yukon 5.13 gears and master overhaul kits from Northridge 4x4, plus the $600 labor River Raider charged me to have it all installed and setup. IMHO anything more than $1200 you are the victim of highway robbery.

Ok great that's about what I had heard but wanted some first hand information. I want to go ahead and do it anyway but I think I'll wait and see before I drop that kind of money.

You also have to realize that geographic location makes a difference too. I had the same setup installed - did my research and for a quality drivetrain shop to do it in Denver, was around $1450. Do your homework for your area and you will get a more accurate answer. Just my 2 cents. BTW - the gears are great - huge improvement!

How do you like the 5:13s As far as top end and fuel mileage? My 08 is my DD so fuel mileage is a concern but the 3:21s need to go..

Just to chime in... The 5.13 and larger pinion gear has very small gear teeth due to the pumpkin size on the d30 and d44, and therefore are quite prone to failure under sudden/high torque (especially when locked in)... If you can get by with 4.88 or less I'd suggest thinking about it, especially with the 3.6 in the new 2012's.

Happy wheeling!!!

FWIW I am regearing to 3.73 with my 2012. I have 33" duratracs. Thats the biggest tire I will go so 3.73s are a great choice. If I were going to 35s I would get 4.10s. I also live in florida where there isn't much rock crawling and not too many hills. 4.88s are overkill unless your going with bigger than 37" tires. This is strictly for the 2012.

~$600 for parts from one of the vendors here, then a local place charges $800 for installation. there are some places in houston that charge less, but the local place is, well... local. so if i have problems i can go to them and not drive an hour and a half away.

I totally agree with this for the 2012... Also in Florida, but must be a different part because I find all kinds of places to Krawl and climb.
