i was removing my windshield frame mounted light and one torx bolt head broke off. i tried a few different bolt extractors but the damn thing is rusted in their good. any other ideas?
thanks
I'm not certain how those threads are in the windshield frame. They may be a nutsert--perhaps someone chimes in. But, for a different situation NOT involving a nutsert, but rather a nut welded in place, I kept drilling out, using larger and larger screw extractors, until basically the shards of the broken screw fell out. The original threads were then damaged, so I drilled it out larger and used a Helicoil to restore the original thread size. Worked great (in my case, on the bracket inside the frame rail used to hold the rear bumper in place).
thanks. i actually tried all 4 bolt extractor bits in the kit from small to large but didnt have any luck. they are the small ones and dont go very deep into the bolt. i might just buy a single deep easy out and see if that works. if not i may try and jbweld a nut onto the end of it.
Just went through this with a water pump bolt. Nothing worked. Even welded 3 nuts onto the end and they all broke off. Heat, vice grips nada would get it out. The welding Is a great trick if you are able to get it done.
If not you are marking dead center with a punch and slowly drilling it one step up at a time straight until it chips out and then you can chase the threads and hopefully revive them.
