Rims
Ok, I have a dilemma.... I'm interested in getting 35inch tires. I currently have 18 inch rims stock on a sahara jk unlimited. I am debating on 17 or 18 inch rims. I want to know two things, would the 18inch rims be subject to more scratching on the rocks? For some reason 18 inch seems to look better on the 4 door. Second question is what rims do most people use for wheeling maybe six times a year, steel or aluminum. Does it really make a difference? (prob opened a can of worms with that question)... But I am only planning on doing green, blue, trails for now on east coast.

The bigger the rim the more prone to scratches if u are rock crawling. Plus the bigger the rim the more expensive the tires cost. Steel to aluminum wheels is a debate. Some people say one way some say other. Steel wheels are cheaper and if u really knock it and it bends, u can usually bend it back and limp back to camp. Aluminum if u hit it hard enough will break and your done there. I rock crawl a lot in Arizona. I run 35 on 16 inch rims. Aluminum. They are scratched to heck and I'm pretty careful when I go out. I run 8-10 psi in my tires too. I hope that helps.

the smaller the better. As you go down in rim size, tire prices decrease, youre also less likely to damage a rim wheeling. I personally went with an aluminum rim because its lighter and its a more "finished" look. I couldnt bring my self to put steelies on my brand new jeep because theyre so rugged and raw IMO.

i went 17 inch. should have gone smaller. my rims are trashed.
Might wanna think about steelies for wheeling and alluminim for show. |
15" steels there disposable at $50 a piece

I have a Sahara with 18s and just got a new set of 17's that I love :rock:
No if I can only sell one of my other cars to get some tires! |
I got my 305/65/18 tire ran me 950 all four in destination MT lol

i was going to go with the 17's, a lot less expensive, i researched and found 18 was a better option rim
