Rough Country Evap Skid does not Fit 14 JK
 

In case you are looking at buying this part I can tell you it does not fit on the 14 JK. Where there used to be a straight exhaust pipe there is now a muffler. The muffler prevents you from bolting the skid up.

When I ordered mine Rough Country had 7-14 2 and 4 doors listed. Now they will get to have their part back.

If anyone knows of an evap skid that does in fact fit a 14 please reply here!

So I get the Rough Country skid and get under the jeep and remove the stock evap mount and disconnect the evap can hoses and predictably break the locking clips.

Once I put the skid into place it was clear right away that it would not fit.

So I left the jeep disassembled and started looking locally. Funny part is that I had identified the GenRight skid as being a good choice and it just so happened that my local 4WD shop had one that had been returned.

What was really funny to me is that it was returned because it had a very minor scratch on it. Imagine returning a skid because it had a scratch:rotflmao2: The scratch didn't even break the powdercoat.

It was also missing the bolt to hold the evap can to the skid, a local hardware store replacement for under a dollar.

In exchange for the scratch the 4WD shop volunteered to take $15 off so I got the skid out the door for $108. It bolted right up and it is a superior solution for a couple of important reasons.

A lot of the skids have holes in the bottom So that exposes the plastic evap can to, for example, a cut off tree or piece of wood going thru the hole and wrecking the evap can. Many of the skids also leave the hoses exposed. So a rock that would take out the evap can could easily smash a hose.

The GenRight version has no holes to allow a bottom intrusion. But the really cool thing is that their skid is a good 6 inches longer than the evap can and the evap can sits back so that the hoses are all protected by the skid. The hoses all drop into the skid from above as opposed to most skids which for whatever reason still have the hoses running through holes in the front of the skid.

The GenRight version bolted right up and fit like a charm. And we went jeeping last weekend and I bopped it good! No problem!

It also will not work if you have after market exhaust. I had one on my 2010 JK for a few months before I added Banks monster exhaust to my rig. It looked like the clearance would be fine until I started driving around any time I was stopped or going under 20 mpg the exhaust would make contact with it. It would hit right were the bolt was on the side I ended up taking it off in favor of not messing up the exhaust by denting it. I may try to modify it to get it to work at some point or I may just get a different one.

Why not just get a relo kit for $50-60 or less and be done with it?

If I cant modify the skid I have a relocation kit may just be my solution.

I do have to say this about Rough Country. They sent me a return shipping tag and credited me for the everything, cost plus shipping.

That is first class customer service. I have always felt that if a vendor sends the wrong part that I should never be penalized by having to pay shipping either way.

So my hat is off to Rough Country and I will look to them for other things I need in the future.

I thought thew newer JK's already had a skid over the evap???:thinking:

The newer JK's do indeed have a sheet metal skid around the evap can. We took ours out wheeling the weekend after I installed the new 3/16" steel skid and I bopped it hard on a rock. I am pretty sure it would have wrinkled the factory protector.

you are correct the newer JK's do my 2010 sport did not come with one. The newer JK's also come with an auxiliary transmission cooler standard now to help to avoid cooking you transmission.
