Rubicon Express Bushings

I bought and installed my RE 3.5 Superflex lift last March. Recently I was hearing some clunking, especially when taking off as well as some squeaks. I went to service the superflex joints and noticed 3 of the 6 bushings on the control arms were disintegrating. I called 4wd parts where I bought the lift and had the bushings in two days, probably because RE is located here in Sacramento. Any way I am planning on heading up to the Reno Whitewater festival next weekend and will be towing my pop-up, so I figure I better get busy and get the bushings replaced. I know this has been a common problem, so for those who have replaced the bushings what was the technique? Do you need a press to get the new bushings in, or would a vice and socket work? Anyone have problems with their new bushings failing? I don"t want this to become a yearly maintenance routine. Any tips welcome.

Easy, I remove the old bushings with a press but it can be done with a hammer and a socket. I spray windex on the new bushing and give it a wack with a dead hammer it goes in real easy. Make sure that the bushing boss is round as they sometime stretch out. Rubicon has had a bunch of bad bushings and they has been a warranty issue on them.

Look on the bright side of things. You'll have to get brand new bushings every 6 months or so and you'll get good and faster at changing them out.:D And able to show fellow RE guys how to change their's too.

No Superflex joints are good, they are on one side of all the control arms. It is the bushings on the other end that are bad. Just need to make sure I can get by without a press as I don't have one. If necessary though, I will pick one up at harbor freight, but besides this application, I really have not had much use for a press. Don't want something I use rarely taking more space up in the garage. I also could get creative with a bottle jack if I have to. Just looking for some input from those who have already had to do it.....and that seems like a fair number of people.:naw:
