Default Rubicon Rail Steps

Tearing off the factory steps I cracked (dented the bottom of tub but just missed the pinch seam). So it is time to add some better protection.

Bought a cheap set of rubicon rails with the intention of welding on some tubing. Wife wants me to plate the whole top because she is afraid her foot will slide in the gap.

Anybody have any pics of DIY jobs? What size and thickness tubing? Not sure how to account for the curve when I plate the top. Dimple plate, diamond plate? Ideas?

My 85 year old father befriended a fab/welding shop owner and helps him out. The shop owner offered to do whatever I need at no cost (I can weld but not that good). He even will supply the steel so not a bad deal.

Any help appreciated.

For the price, it's really hard to beat the frame mounted VKS pre-runner sliders. Plus you get an actual step. Since you're outside the US I'm sure it will end up costing more.

If anything, if you guys plan to just make a set yourselves it would be a good design to copy from.

These are for the 2-door....

Ace sliders give you a nice step and fit with the rubicon sliders.

I am in Canada, everything costs fortune and I have a person who owns a fabrication/welding shop willing to supply free materials and work.

Picked up a cheap set of rubicon rails to use as a base.

Check out TNT Customs, they have a really nice slider step combo, you could take the pictures to your welder and it shouldn't be too hard to copy, the design it's pretty simple.

Check out a few of the DIY weld-on kits. Even if you don't want to buy one, at least they could give you ideas.

Poison Spyder Rico step kit
Jeepswag DIY weld-on tube set
Synergy/Poly Performance
Not sure who else, but there have to be others

I'm trying to find a step slider combo too. I like the VKS/LOD but I'd like something a little more level than angled up for the kiddos.
Most of the pics I've found of the VKS look different than the ones posted. Anyone have pics of them mounted.

Figured out what I am going to do after obsessing about it for days and printing models on my 3d printer.

Came across a pic while searching. Just gonna make a 4 step baskets from 1/4"x4" flat stock and weld them up under each door right to the rubicon rail.
