I'm actually in the middle of doing rust repair myself... My shrockworks front and olympic rails have been on the JK for over 2 1/2 years, all of that in salt-water enviroments. The rust just recently got bad... so I bought a grinder and am about halfway through the first rail...

Buy some form of prep (I'm using Duplicolor Rust Converter) and some bedliner (again, I've got Dupli Bedliner) and go to town. When you're done, it'll hold up just as good as, if not better then, you're original coating.

A little surface rust isn't bad, so long as you treat it and keep it from spreading. The metal is still perfectly fine, it's just a little touch-up work...

I'm over little bits of rust. Living in Maine my Jeep came with rust brand new...
Pressure wash it, clean it up and spray it black again.

Default Aluminum

I'm surprised that no one makes an aluminum bumper.
All of the aftermarket ones I have ever seen are made of steel.

Anybody ever see aluminum bumpers on a Jeep?

I wasn't at all happy with the coating on my LoD sliders. Flaking, and could take big chunks off with my fingernail. I don't even believe it is a true powder coat. I was going to call them on it, but this spring I'll just take them off and get them powder coated properly.

I understand the rust thing, living in the midwest with salted roads, it's going to happen. What I don't see an excuse for is poor prep work and they obviously didn't have a clean start if I can chunk off quarter size pieces with my fingernail.

This is why I don't spend a lot of money on bumpers. Unless it is a street queen no bumper finnish will hold up to offroad use any way so I always touch up with bedliner all the time

I worked on Tallships for 10 years, so rust and dry rot are serious enemies, even after I left the boat. That's why i get a little pissy when I see rust of any sort.

Default LoD bumper Rust

Well, add me to the list of rust on my LoD rear bumper.

I am anal about washing my JKU every week during the winter or after some sloppy wet/salty roads to get the nasty salt off from our winter...but my Lod Rear bumper is rusting pretty good now at the swing gate hinge/and tire carrier lock mechanism which I pump full of grease every 3-4weeks.

Then I just washed it yesterday and now the LoD emblem and the D-Ring tabs/mounts are rusting at the welds and is starting to look pathetic for this spendy bumper. My front bumper is holding out just great, but it's the damn rear bumper that is looking bad! Any ideas on treating these area's to prevent it from rusting besides armourthane which I maybe leaning towards now. Any good sprays that can help reduce the rust? Looking for ideas.
