I wanted to share the steps I took to fight corrosion this year and I'm happy to say that things are working great! The two main products that I used besides elbow grease are, frame plugs from Black Fork Tool and lanolin based Fluid Film.
First rewind back to spring, I bought hole covers for the obnoxious sized holes that Jeep puts directly behind the wheels. These worked great to keep the mud out! Unlike years past, when I removed them to hose the frame out, I scarcely got any mud water flowing out. They worked great keeping mud and weeds out so I figured they would help keep salt out of my frame too!
Fast forward to fall, I spent a couple hours under my jeep on car ramps with the hose and a scrub brush. I hosed and cleaned everything that I could. I removed the skid plate and washed it and also removed the frame plugs and flushed the inside of the frame. Next I let the Jeep dry a couple days. Now I applied the fluid film. this stuff work great! I found an under-coating spray gun on Amazon for under $40 with a hose attachment. The hose allowed me to get into the frame and up around different undercarriage parts. I was careful to not get any film on the brake rotors but I drenched the Jeep. I reinstalled the frame plugs and waited for winter. Now we're getting hammered with snow and salt........the combo is working great! The fluid film took on a layer of dust and almost keeps the salt from sticking to metal. I removed one of the plugs yesterday to inspect and the inside of the frame is absolutely spotless! The pictures say it all, you can even see some of the weeds that did not make it into my frame!
