Default Shock install

Just received my 4 new Old man emu shocks. WOW they are huge compared to my stock X shocks I can't wait to get them installed. It appears that they are shipped compressed with a wire piece holding them together. If anyone has any advice or tips, pix.... please comment. I plan on installing this weekend!!!

I just had to replace one of my rear MX6s last week. It was a b!tch because the strap broke and they're really hard to compress by hand. I ended up getting the lower mount in, jacking up the frame to get more room, used a ratchet strap to compress the shock, and weaseled into place.

So.....if you can keep the straps on during install then you shouldn't have many issues. Get the bottom mounts in, swing into place and be sure it's lined up, then cut the straps and cross your fingers.

And have some ratchet straps handy in case you need them so you don't have to make a parts run like I did.

I am sure it will look good once u are done. Shocks give me issues mostly in the front. Sometimes the rear bolts sieze up and break so spray them down if u have not done them in a while.

I've changed the shocks on my Jeep twice now--to RC and then to TF--and I don't recall anything difficult like you describe. I figured that strap is on there just so they don't extend during shipment. They were very easy to install. I did do it during a lift install both times, so maybe loosening up a few more components makes a difference. But, honestly, for me nothing special required at all.

Shocks should be easy, and they usually are.....it's just last week my simple swap turned into a royal PITA.

And yes, it's much easier if it's already jacked up and you're doing a lot of other parts.

I just put my OME long travel shocks on a few months ago, it was cake, maybe 40 minutes total. Be sure to spray your bolts down the night before with some pb blaster or something so you don't spend alot of time wrenching!!

And not to be a debbie downer, but I was fairly unimpressed with the OME's, I can't really see where they are any better than the rubi shocks I took off. They should be better than the standard shocks tho.

I felt that the OME's were a tad more plush on the smaller bumps and cracks in the road, but just as harsh as the Rubis over the big bumps and potholes, etc.
