Default Shocks

If I'm looking for a shock that provides a very soft cushy ride for everyday interstate driving, which is better? Fox 2.0 Performance Series IFP or Ranchero RS9000xl?

Are you at stock suspension? I was in similar situation a few months ago. I opted to go the inexpensive, but excellent route of buying almost new rubicon shocks. I paid $80 for a set of 4 shocks that only had 2000 miles on them. Great upgrade from the stock jku Sport shocks.

Do you want your jeep to ride like your dad’s old Buick station wagon or controlled with a firm(but not harsh) ride?

Any gas filled unadjustable shock like the Fox is gonna be pretty stiff. Between those two choices, I'd opt for the Rancho's due to the adjustability factor. I have Fox myself and they're fine for me, but I can see most saying it's a rough ride.

Your spring rate also has some effect on ride quality. I know when I swapped in my metalcloak springs unnoticed a smoother ride over stock even before adding my Fox 2.0 resi shocks. Most people who ride in it are amazed at how smooth it is. My billstein 4600s I had were harsh compared to the Fox,which I would say are firm, if you opt for the 2.0 resi CD you d gain compression adjustability.

I have the Rancho RS9000s on my 09 JKU. Played with the settings and settled on #1. The springs with my 3 1/2" lift are fairly stiff.

I currently have a 3 1/2 inch lift with Bilstein Shocks. I think I've decided on the Rancho's for the adjustability. I'm going for the old Buick cushy ride feeling

I had these on my old Rubicon. Setting one was like riding a boat on choppy water. I kept mine on 5 and they were perfect for me. I have another Rubicon I just picked up and the stock shocks are not as good as the Rancho's. Im looking to shocks myself and don't want to assume Ranchos are the best. Im open to other alternatives.

I bet that "cushy" ride you're after is going to be a "stranded row boat in the middle of an ocean", especially if your coils are soft.
