Does anybody know anything about these gears? Or could any of you folks more familiar with gears browse their site sierragear.com and see what you think?

Saw another post with info on a place in Houston doing installs with these gears for $850 - that's parts/labor for both front and rear out the door. Only thing not covered is new bearings if needed (which I would want anyway)

About half the price of any place else i've seen around here, so I'm talking myself into driving from Austin to Houston to get it done. Just trying to minimize the chance of this being one of those "you get what you pay for" experiences...

 

wow. I payed right at $1200 total for gears and labor. That was 550 for labor, 599 for gears & install kits from northridge, and ~50 at Oreillys for pinion bearings & whatnot. I know some people payed over 2k. 850 is super cheap.

Do you know anyone that has used this shop? What type of waranty they have? I used superior gear, I think Yukon is ok too. I think only a few companies make all the gears in the world, they are just rebranded. Good Luck. If you do it, make sure you tell everyone how it goes.

 

I have never heard of these folks. Be careful. Not to be cliché but you often get what you pay for.

No, I've only seen one post concerning them on the forum, positive review though. And the reply from the shop said he's done 25 JK's in the last 30 days. We'll see, I guess.

I completely agree. Even thought of going up to Dallas to have SLC do them, but some of us don't have the budget for $850 'per' axle. Even with gas both ways to Houston and extra for the bearings, well, I can afford this

 

Well, somebody has to be the first to try them out and report back to the rest of us. I paid $1700 for Yukons with complete install kits and labor. So, $850 will be a hell of a bargain if they turn out well.

 

I just got quoted $1200 CDN just for labour
They cant find gears for me until I find a number on my diff?
But gears look like at least $700
So I figure I am looking at $2000-$2200 after taxes and everything

 

I find that EXTREMELY hard to believe, if he did 25 in the last 30 days, how many did he do in the last 6months? and no one here so far has had them done by them? even more hard to believe......how much more for new bearings? sorry but unless they could PROVE 100% that they actually did 25 JK's in 30days, they are liars, and I would stay away from any business that lies like that, and with a price that seems WAY to good to be true.....I've been down the road of having gears done twice, IT SUCKS!!!!!!! and costs me 3000k to get done right the 2nd time, the original shop f'ked up both of my lockers in the process

Which is why I started this thread again, to try and get as much info as I can (on both this brand of gears and the shop) before driving all the way there and having an experience like yours.

I also found a Houston 4wheel drive club that has meetings at the shop, but so far no other reviews.


- I see that both Mt Logan and TerFlexPlus are both distributors for the gears. Guess that's a plus.

 

check with the BBB...I didnt realize they were mostly a driveline shop, thats a good thing, I just wonder why they use for the most part an unknown brand of gears, besides price
