I've got a set of these on order. They're raw cast iron. Can anyone recommend a good, durable paint or finish to use on them once they get in? Preferably a not-expensive one since I'm going for protection and not looks?

Maybe JP Magazine had bad info on that. They say "cast iron with a raw finish." Or maybe I was just misunderstanding. The finish you show looks perfect to me.

I've got front and rear and love them. They came in the gray mottled finish, it's very durable. Accidentally dropped mine off my 3' workbench onto concrete, no finish transfer at all, I was scraping concrete off them.
Here's mine:

Stock vs. Solid

I'm not surprised that a .22 cleaned a hole in the stockers...just looking at them the wrong way might bend them.

Also here's a link to my install write-up. https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...+cover+install The directions from Solid are good enough, but I posted some clear big pictures.

The Solid covers used to be unpainted, now they all come with the powdercoat in the picture.

I have the solids front and rear and like them. They do come powder coated but I wanted to paint them so I got some Duplicolor high temp paint and clear coat and they turned out great.

I really liked the ARB covers but was able to get two solids, paint, and lube lockers for the cost of ONE ARB!

Any issues with them hitting the rear track bar? Is the fill hole the same as stock? How about oil capacity compared to stock?

depends on the trackbar,

it has a higher fill hole, but you still only need two bottles
