Spare tire hoist
Anyone happen to fab up a hoist or winch that attaches to an aftermarket tire carrier to lift a heavy 40" tire back onto the tire carrier?

Don't think you'll get much. If the tire is too heavy to lift alone, wouldn't it just be easier to grab a buddy rather than build a hoist? Just food for thought.

thinking i may fab up a portable hand winch or something. |
I had a Lange hoist-a-top winch in my previous house. It also worked well to lower and lift the spare tire. I currently have an eyebolt in a beam that I can use a ratchet strap on, but that's too hard to do well now. I need to get the Lange winch set up again.

At the point where you're having trouble with changing a spare then maybe it's time to consider a -quality- patch/ plug kit along with an air source. Having big tires brings the fun of monkeying around with them.

guess its time for some clarification. im not having trouble patching a spare and i have a patch kit and air etc.
im only looking for a way to make lifting a 40" tire from the ground onto the tire carrier easier by myself without having to do any physical labor 😁 |
Are you open to a new tire carrier? I cannot find info, but it looks like the Olympic brand has a carrier that will dump the tire down and it has little shocks to slow the motion of it coming down. Moving those tires can't be fun- best of luck.

i will try and rig something up on my lod for now. thanks |
GoRhino is working on a setup for their rear tire carrier (to be released) for this exact purpose. Uses a drill or hand crank to raise and lower to the ground. http://www.gorhino.com/Lift-Assist they showed it at SEMA this year
