Default Spare Tire Mount / AEV Wheel - large gap w/ spacers.

I have the AEV Pintler w/ a 285 / 70 / 17 tires mounted on them. For my spare tire, the new offset of the AEV tire pushes my spare tire away from the two rubber tailgate bumpers. There is now appx a 1" gap between the tire and the tailgate bumpers. Does anyone know of a source that sells extended tailgate bumpers? These are the ones located behind the spare tire to the left and right of the stock spare tire mounting bracket on the tailgate. I would like to avoid damaging my tailgate, and am not yet ready for a bumper/swing carrier setup.

I use these. You can cut them down to be a perfect fit.

I have the same setup you have, wheel and tire size, they daystars are great to fix this, but will need to be cut down a bit for a perfect fit. They are soft rubber so it's pretty easy. Also, keep your old ones if you plan on using your old wheels and tires ever again. I switch for summer and winter.

I have the same wheel/tire combo. Buy the Daystar spacers as mentioned above and cut them as shown ...

Do you need these with AEV Pintler wheels regardless of tire size?--In other words, would they be necessary if you were running the Pintlers with a 265/70R17 tire?

Thanks,
Steve

Yes, you will need them for a 265. I trust that you would need them until you get up to at least a 35" tire (or larger). There is a significant gap for a 286/70/17, so a smaller tire should incure a much larger gap. I'll let someone else comment if they are required when you run a 35" or larger tire.

I have the AEV beadlocks which probably sit about the same as yours. My 35s would not even sit on the bumper. There are a lot of ways to make 35s fit, but in the long run because of weight, etc I thought it best to just get an aftermarket bumper/tire carrier that can handle the extra weight. You can find a lot of discussion on the forum about the weight of 35s on the tailgate, but eventually most agree the extra weight wil eventually do too much damage.

I'm in the process of making a spacer braket now..I run pintler's with 315/70R17 GY duratracs and stock it would hit the bumper...I needed a lift of about a 1 1/2" lift. I'm making it out of a 1 1/4" thick 5x8" piece of alum and will cut down to size. I also have the Daystar spacers as well as the MBRP tailgate braces but I weighed my stock Rubi's at 74 lbs and my new ones at 86 lbs plus about 3-4 lbs for the spacer. I think the big no no on the tailgate is leverage so the closer you can get to stock the better...But that is just because I'm close to stock on weight..I should be about 15-16 lbs heavier I wouldn't go past 20lbs more then stock...IMO

ok finished it up last night...here are the results all for about a 100 bucks that was metal, bumpstops and MBRP brace kit.

I ended up being 15 lbs heavier then my stock spare so we'll see how it goes.
