Steering setup opinions
 

Hey guys another newbie here, just bought a used JK with at least a 3.5+ lift, Rough Country SS and running on Nitto trails 38's. I went with the 5.38 gears and programmer. My question is what steering setup should be done to tighten up my drive, and YES she has death wobble...

Well, you'll get lots of answers on this. I suppose mine is address the death wobble first (see link below for some guidance). Then, what do you mean by 'tighten up your drive'? With 3.5+ inches of lift, perhaps you've got flighty steering? If so, that's typical of having too little caster (under 4.2 degrees). Some more information will be helpful. What lift do you have? Does it have adjustable control arms? Do you have a drag link flip and raised front and rear track bar brackets (at the axle side)? How are your ball joints?

You have a 2018 on 38's and with 5.38 gears? Ugh, LOL, I thought my 5.13 gearing and 37s were a bit aggressive on the interstate. On such a new rig, with DW already......I'd bet $5 those tires have already eaten through the factory ball joints. Go through the whole inspection process of the steering system (like jedg linked to) and get familiar with things and accustomed to doing so.....

Full-on deathwobble? Or shimmy, or flighty/wandery, or bump steer - or some combination? If you got it aligned, post the specs.

And try and give a better idea of which aftermarket components are installed. For the caster, various RC lifts have come with Cam Bolts, 'Fixed' control arms, Adjustable control arms. On their taller lifts, they like to include a drop pitman & front trackar bracket combo instead of a draglink flip.

This is the most accurate thing I've ever seen posted on this forum LOL. Well done.


OP: you need to address your death wobble before you do anything else. Pictures of your steering setup and suspension will help as well. Go through the death wobble diagnostic thread, and check everything one by one.
