Default Steps for better access

My 9-year old son is finally coming back home after battling a rare brain disease that required him to get intensive chemotherapy and a bone-marrow transplant out in MN. He is very weakened by the process and his vision is almost gone, but he is alive and we are thankful for everything we get.

The issue here is that both my wife and I have Jeeps, and hers ('08 Sahara Unlimited) will be the primary transport mode. What we're looking for is any suggestions/products that someone on the forum knows about that will help him better get into/out of the Jeep. We're looking for side steps in particular. We have already bought grab handles that will help him, but need the steps to ensure he can get in more easily.

Not sure which forum category I should post this on.

Appreciate any help!!

Tnx Snowbdr and Planman for the ideas, I'll definitely be looking into both of those...I was also seeing some retractable power steps that someone modded from an H3 in this thread:

https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...t=steps&page=4

Does anyone know whether they offer them specifically for the JK Unlimited?

Always looking for more ideas on this, and thanx a lot for the help! We really don't want to get rid of the Jeep and my son really enjoys being in the Jeep, so if we can get this modded to help him out, that would be a lifesaver!!

We may have a set of slightly used rock rails and steps available if you are interested in the MBRP design. The steps are detachable so if/when your son no longer needs them they can be removed and the rock rails can stay intact. Let me know if you're interested and I'll see what I can work out for you.

Here is a site that has electric side steps for Jk's. They run about 1300 dollars. I have not done business with them, I only found them by searching for your request. I can't do a link, but maybe they will allow this: xxx(dot)electricstep(dot)com

I think that they are the same ones that Camp showed on a thread here, only these are made for the JK, and not the H3.

I hope this helps. Best wishes!

I did once consider the manually sliding Highrock steps for my 5' tall wife before she perfected the "Jeep hop"

Those would be really nice, too bad for the price though . . . ouch.

If you would like a slightly different idea, I have purchased a small folding plastic step that my 90 year grandmother uses to get up into my lifted Jeep.

The same step was also used by my brother-in-law to get into the less lifted Jeep when we went to Alaska.

The step folds completely flat when not in use, fits under the back seat (at least in a 4 door), and will support up to 350 pounds.

I think I paid $20 or so for it at the local Thiesens.

I can get a picture of it later tonight if you want to see what I am talking about, but this would be a cheaper alternative by far that would not compromise your overall ground clearance, or require you to replace anything major on your Jeep.

You could get a couple and have one in each Jeep.

And of course this would work in conjunction with any rails that had any type of step function in them if you did decide to also add them.

But anything that can help him more easily get into the Jeep is worth a look at, and at least for people having problems getting into mine, this has been a cheap godsend to have.
