I had that dry start knock with an OEM filter. I only had the knock after the dearler did the leaky timing cover TSB and they put on an OEM filter and their oil. Last weekend I put on a new filter and full synth oil. I'll see how it goes.

It will eventually start to do it even with the Motorcraft filter. Mine did.

I am about to hit 3000 k on my jeep. I know you do not have too but I have always changed my oil at 3000k intervals.

Thanks for the information, Ive run the K&N oil filter on all my other rigs, debating to try that or just stick with OEM or the Motocraft oil filter. Probably go with the Motocraft.

Does different brand Syn. Oil really matter? Mobile 1 or royal purple etc..?

I have had no issues with the Fram Toughguard filter. What is a "dry start?"

Dry start occurs when the oil that should be trapped in the oil filter after the engine is shut off drains out of the filter and back into the pan causing the first few seconds of the engine running to be without oil as it has to circulate back up from the pan....

metal on metal is a bad thing!

I am 99.9% sure mine has this happening as well and I have had the OEM filter and oil from day one, always changed at intervals. What should I say when I take it in to have it looked at? I know they wont want to replace the engine but if that is hat needs to be done, I dont want them talking their way out of it. Any advice?

Mobil 1 has been the worst for me as far as the oil light coming on after startup. I have tried several and they all did it. K&N as well but they are the same filter.

I have a Pure 1 in right now and no light on startup.

I know this came up briefly in another thread, but question

Is there necessarily a cause and effect relationship between a momentary lack of oil pressure and engine increased engine wear or is the oil film sufficient to prevent damage in the interim?

You get an oil light on at start up? Wow, I'd definitely take it in and make them fix it if mine was that bad.
