From the multiple threads on here on that topic, it would appear that that is the case. If you're worried about water, you might just want to consider getting a snorkel instead.

If youre ever in water that's up to your headlights, then regardless of stock intake or "CAI", you'd be fucked.

The stock intake has holes on the bottom that works very well in acting like a straw when submerged.

With an open element intake ("CAI") you'll at least be able to draw in air from the top of the filter, unlike the sealed stock intake, but it only takes a little bit of the wet stuff to hydrolock the minivan V6.

But, both work about as well as the toilet paper I wipe my ass with. If youre every in, or ever plan to be in water deeper than the height of your bumper, you should really be looking into a snorkel.

The AEV is nice if you can afford the complementing hood.. the River Raider snorkel is nice since all it takes is a 3.125" hole in your quarter panel. If I had the cash, the AEV would be my first choice.

I got the K&N intake, could have paid the extra 75 for the AEV snorkel. Still kicking myself for it. NOT having the snorkel has only aided to the pucker factor when I'm mudding.
