Stripping powder coat
Does anyone know what to use to strip powder coating. Gonna get recoated and the shop wants $300 to strip and $600 to recoat. Seems ridiculously high to me. Thoughts??
There are several options... If you want the powder completely stripped then you will need to sandblast it. I just did that today at my powder coater. If you just need to take it down a bit then use 100 grit sand paper. I just did that today too. Use an orbital sander and don't stay in one place to long. Powder coat likes to adhere to anything that's hot so if you sand it too long it will get hot and either ball up and adhere or just adhere.
Sand blasted:

Good luck.

Good luck.
These are all solutions that I have found on the web.
Acetone should dissolve it. However you will need a big metal bucket to soak it in.
Oven cleaner.
Goof off Paint stripper. http://www.lowes.com/pd/Goof-Off-18-...mover/50298103
Permatex Gasket Remover.
Caution: Acetone is EXTREMELY flammable. Only use it outside or in a well ventilated area.

In regards to my previous comments, that were never answered, I was going to suggest purchasing a sandblaster and covering the items in air-craft stripper before you sand blasted them. I'm not sure on the going rate of having items sandblasted, but I know you can pick up a decent "diy" sandblaster for pretty cheap, mine has came in handy quite often.

The shop said they use a special stripper not readily available to consumers..... Hmmmm I bet it's the aircraft stripper u mentioned
You can get at any auto paint supply store. I have always had powder coat blasted off before coating.
Local shop here in OKC uses an oven. Put part in overnight, take out next day, powder coat has all turned to ash. Another one uses a sandblaster. Sand hopper is about 30 feet tall, hose is 4" diameter, and your bumper will be clean in less than a minute or two. Find a different shop that is more efficient.
