V8 swapped jeeps in Cali are rare, AEV swapped jeeps are EXTREMELY rare... Just depends on who you know.

I'll tell you it was a HUGE pain in the ass getting my jeep into Cali with an AEV swap, still trying to get it done legit, gonna cost me a few grand to get it right to get my carb sticker.
I didn't know that. That sucks, I hope you can pull it off. I've read that JSS swaps are legal as well as Turnkey LS conversion. Maybe they can offer some insight. California really makes vehicle fun as hard as they can, Bastards!!

I believe that for a JSS to pass CA there is an incremental cost over $1k.

Don't forget the funky rule in many states that the donor engine has to be the same year or newer as the Jeep.

Donor vehicle has to be same year or newer
Vehicle itself has to be 8yrs or 80k mi old. ( out of federal emissions warranty)
Factory computer with all factory set monitors
Factory cats from donor vehicle (AEV cats are not CA legal)
Has to pass a sniff test and pass a CARB referee visual inspection.

I'm half tempted just to ship it up north and pay jss to get it done cause what from I understand they have a relationship with the ref in there area cause they've got there shit down.

If I do my part with cats and tuning I still have to take the chance and take it to my local ref and hope they don't look at it and say WTF is this!!??

It's a process for damn sure... I may just rock it till I get popped and register it in AZ at my parents place and tell CA to suck a fat one.
