Default Super Lift question

Would it be wise to buy the Super lift 4" lift and then cut the springs down 1" to avoid the problems associated w/ a 4" lift on 2dr's (3" total lift)? The reason I'm asking is due to the kit being one of the most complete for the price. My jeep is a daily driver and will still be used hard off-road. I really don't want to spend the money on new drive shafts, pitman arm and what ever else is needed, fails or breaks with having a 4" lift. I'm also thinking about getting the daystar fully adjustable upper and lower arms for the front and rear. So total the lift would run about $1300 for everything give or take a few bucks.

Look at Superlift's BlackDiamond division. They have a 3" lift.

I know that, but for about the same price you get shocks and both trac bars with the superlift kit. Thats saves a couple hundred bucks.

I cut a half coil off my Black Diamond springs because they sat a bit too high for me. No biggy.

That was on my fronts. The back might be a bit of a problem because some manufacturers go from a small diameter to a large diameter, but looking at Superlifts springs it looks like you can cut the top coil (Same Diameter)

Just use a cut-off wheel on a die grinder. Takes about 2 minutes per spring.

i wouldn't cut them. if something ever goes wrong with the lift you're just giving the manufacturer an excuse to not guarantee their workmanship. just get a 2.5 or 3" kit. there's enough of them out there.

If I'm not mistaken cutting a coil spring also makes the spring stiffer. I'm not sure exactly why this is except perhaps that there is less metal to distribute the load. Anyone else that can shed light on this?

I bet if you call Superlift they'd set up a 4" kit with 3" springs for you. They seem to be easy to work with.

I've talked with them several times and have always got good customer service.

By the way I opted for the Black Diamond 3" lift and have been quite happy. It does come with an adjustable front trackbar but no shocks. I didn't think the 4" came with a rear trackbar either but I could be wrong.

Don't do it. Get the 3" if you are that concerned. It comes with a track bar. As for issues with the 4", I've been running my 4" superlift for 6 months and have been more than happy with it. Cutting your spring has a lot of negative effects, you change the spring rate, as well as the heat treat on the section you have cut. Not a good idea at all.
