Default Synthetic Winch Rope

Anyone ever use AlltoAuto Winch Rope? I am not very happy with this brand of rope. Was using it for the first time yesterday to pull some bushes out. While pulling the rope buries itself on the spool as tension is increased making it difficult to pull out if you need to lengthen the rope to get at the next bush. Anyone else experience this problem with the rope you use on your winch?

Thanks,
Russell

That's not good, and it's not likely much tension just pulling bushes. Maybe setup a long pull on a hill, or drag the brakes, to try and get the rope stretched, tensioned, and tighter on the drum.

I know that I’m going against the grain here, everyone today is saying synthetic rope is the greatest, nothing wrong with it if you take care of it , same thing can be said about cables, a clean well taken care of cable can last as long as the winch, synthetic rope needs to be covered to stop the sun from damaging it, can have abrasions from minor objects more so than cables, cables can have broken wires that weaken and can cut you if you slide across it, pros and cons on both, personally I prefer cables, someone else may prefer synthetic rope, either one should be wound even and tight.
my thoughts, take the rope off and put on a cable, that’s the part where I go against modern popular belief

Dat my thoughts exactly. Been using wire ropes since 1976 and never had one break. Thing to watch for is rust so I keep my cable sprayed with something like motorcycle chain oil so it never gets rusty or frayed. Only good thing about synthetic is it can be field spliced in case of breakage. Also never seen a synthetic rope on a crane or large bulldozer.

Pros and cons to each. I kinda think that is going to happen with any synthetic just by nature of the weave design. I've pulled a lot of bushes myself. Mother Nature's roots have a lot more resistance sometimes than you'd think. That is a lot more tension than pulling your jeep out of something as the tires try to spin or assist some.

One thing I wwill give Synthetic is you can have it wound out, roll it up like a lassoo and throw it to someone 20 or 30ft away like when you climb around the Jeep in a mudhole and don't want to get your feet dirty. Can't do that with wire.

You need to the tension the line when spooling it on. You should have seen my neighbors looking out the windows when I hooked up to the fire hydrant in the cul-de-sac and dragged the brakes while reeling in a new line.
