If room is needed drive the grocery-getter. Save 160 lbs of weight and pull the 75-lb back seat and 85-lb tire/wheel combo that never gets used. Honestly who's had s flat on a big ol MT tire with 18-20mm lugs driving around town

I don't entirely disagree, but forgoing the spare isn't an option for some and it shouldn't be difficult to get a decent sized tire on the back of a jeep.

However, taking a trip to parts unknown means a spare is just good planning, and may take up too much room if carried in the back. I just purchased the MORryde kit. I know jscherb's design is sound, and it was $50 cheaper than the Smittybilt carrier. I guess if rust is an issue with it, I can always blast and recoat it.

I went without for years, and I was lucky not to have a problem. This tire wasn't flat, and that's a 2" nail!

It IS the grocery getter!

No offense, but you act like some of us drive around without a need for the back seat. People still use Jeeps as DD's and passenger carrying vehicles. I have in fact had 2 flat tires lifetime. One on a 33" MT and once with a 32" AT.

I have the Teraflex and feel it is well worth it. I can drive down washboard roads with zero tire movement. I do wish it was a little cheaper, but with that said I do like the flexibility it provides.

Thanks for all the input. Can't wait to get rid of the rattles...from the tire carrier.

Just finished my install of the MORryde kit. Definitely solid, but a bit fiddly to install. With my tires on stock rims, it seems the factory bumpstops aren't very tight against the tire, so that might be something to look at if you're using skinny tires or wheels with a lot of offset. I'll keep an eye on mine just in case the tire isn't snug enough.

There is a percentage of folks out here that would like everyone on these forums to believe that 98% of the time they are offroad with their Jeeps, bullsheet, get real.
Take a 250 mile trip to the boonies to wheel for a weekend , or anything else for that matter, without a spare, really !
Besides, a real Jeep needs a big meaty spare on the gate, and zippers

X2 on the Teraflex HD carrier. It's a solid unit. Installed it over the weekend. If you get the adjustable tire carrier too, the spare sits snugly against the HD swing arm.

No more rattles!
