Default Tire Dilemma - Terraflex 2.5

OK, i'm gping to install the terraflex 2.5 BB on my Rubicon. I really like the look of the stock BFG Mud Terrain TA/KM's, but i definately want to go taller. Stock size is 255/75/17 (32.06"). Problem is, the only other option for BFG TA/KM's is 285/70/17 (32.71"). That's only a little over 1/2" taller!?!

I was looking at Goodyear Wrangler MT/R, which come in 305/70/17 (33.81"), which is an increase in 1.75" diameter over stock.

It just seems like a waste of money to lift the Rubi 2.5" and then only increase the tire height by 0.5". The MT/R 305 seems like the best bet. So my quesitons are:

1-Is there anything wrong with this line of thought. Am I screwing up the logic somehow? and..

2-I looked at Yokohama, Firestone, etc. and didn't like any of their choices. Any other ideas for manufacturers?? Like I said, I like the look of the stock BFG on the Rubi, so I'm looking for something similar.

Thanks all.

Oh - and I just found one more thing. The BFG comes in what they advertise as a 35x12.5x17, which is 34.8" tall. You guys think that's too much for the 2.5BB Lift on a Rubi with 4.10s???

Not at all. I ran this setup for a while and SDMF is running it now with his TeraFlex BB and doesn't have any problems with it.

I run the 295/75r16 (33.4 inch) nitto terra grapplers. They are all terrain but still look aggresive. They ride good and are quite. You can get the mud grapplers in 295/75r16 too i think. I had the stock 255/75r17 as well. I wanted bigger just not gas sucking big![/IMG]

You guys with 2.5 and 35's how much of a difference is it with a JK with a 4 inch and 37's? I realize it should be about 4-5 inches, but I"m trying to decide which way to go.

I've priced a 4 inch lift and 37x12.50x17 BFG's with the spacers for about $2,814.00

The 2.5 BB with 35x12.50x17 BFG's with the spacers run about 1,640.00

The rubicon will be a family weekend toy / light trail use. I love the looks of 37's but is the size difference worth approximatly $1,174.00? Am I leaving out anything?

My CJ was lifted with 33's and it was OK, but I love the look of 37's.

Does anyone with the 2.5 with 35's have a pic along side of a JK with 37's, or a stock JK?

Any thoughts are much appreciated!

The difference is the power - with 37's, even if you have the 4.10's overdrive will be worthless on the highway. Your motor will be working much harder to keep the same speeds and your gas mileage will go way down. You can fix this with some gears, but your looking at another grand. 35's are much more bearable with 4.10's. If you dont do alot of highway driving then you may be able to so the 37's route and just deal with the power loss. Im gonna stick with 35's for now till I dont have to do a 3 hour commute down the highway every other week........
