Question Tire size suggestions requested... yes, another thread about tires

I'll start by saying that yes, I have read tons of threads regarding this but of course have not found a clear and defined solution to what I'm facing. Just purchased a 2013 JK Sport S (yeah, paid extra for everything which included the MOAB rims) with the 3.21 gears. Long term plan (6yrs down the road) is to regear and go with 37's but until then I am planning to roll with a 2-2.5in lift with new rubber on the stock 17in rims. After past experiences we're leaning towards the Nitto Trail Grappler M/T's. My question is...

With a 2-2.5in lift and using the stock 17in rims should I consider LT285/75R17E 121Q, LT295/70R17 121/118P E or LT315/70R17D 121Q. I do not mind having to use spacers on the axles or tire carrier. The determining factor at this time between a 2 or 2.5in lift is my pending research on how the drive-shaft will be affected. Pictures would be appreciated as well. Thanks for the input!

the 33s would be better with the 3.21 gears. E rated tires are very stiff

That's because there isn't one.

Lots of variables. And personal opinion. And personal preference. And location. And usage. And needs. And budget. And model. And specific components. And ...

The higher you go, the more likely a driveshaft issue will be. Disconnected, more likely than connected. Long travel shocks, more likely than the short stockers. Flexing in the rocks, more likely than jumping speedbumps at the mall. Can you lose a driveshaft at 2-2.5"?? Yes. Is it likely? No. Will 'you' lose one of yours?? No clue...

Don't stress over it, just make crawling underneath and checking the driveshaft joints part of your regular maintenance. If/when you see split boots or grease splatter, look into it further.

For the tire size, get whatever fits your budget and needs. If you want 35's, get 35's instead of being unhappy with 33's. If they rub, you have options. Wheel spacers, trimmed/flat flares, extra bumpstop, adjust steer stops. What, if anything, you need to do will depend on where and how bad it rubs.

I had hoped to post pics of my new tires by now but due to the govt shutdown my jeep funding has been discontinued by the boss, aka wife. Never the less thanks for the info.

Actually, with 3.21 gears and an automatic I'd prefer 29" tires but that would suck. I'd say stick with the stock 32s until you are ready to re-gear. Or, plan to keep the autobox in 3rd or 4th gear a lot of the time.

As far as a 2.5" lift, I've heard it needs an exhaust spacer and maybe a different front drive shaft because of clearance at the transfer case end of the shaft.

3.21 gears will be tough to have with larger tires, in your examples 35s (LT315/70R17) or eventually 37s.

Why are you considering a 2 - 2.5 lift ? If you stay with smaller tires, 32s or 33s, then there is no need for a 2.5" lift. A 2.5" lift is perfect for 35s.

Your Jeep will feel sluggish with 33's and a 3.21 gear .I wouldn't go any bigger on the tires for now and a 2-2.5 in lift shouldn't give you any problems with the driveshafts.
