Default Tire/Wheel Noob Pls Save Me

sooo, I'm underway on my ship and I work during the nights whenever all the shops are closed for me to call and ask these questions.

when it comes to tires and wheels, what am I looking for to make sure they will fit? I'm wanting 315/70R17 Cooper STT Pro tires, with 17" Fuel Hostage wheels. the part i'm getting tripped up on is in:
HOSTAGE 17-85 5:1143/5:127 14ET BLK what exactly am i reading? The only thing I know from this is the rim is 17" with the 5:127 bolt pattern i need.

what else am I supposed to be looking for? what is and the importance of the offset?

thanks again for helping this hopeless jeeper

HOSTAGE 17-85 5:1143/5:127 14ET BLK

Rim Diameter = 17"
Rim Width = 8.5"
(very common size for a JK)

Dual Bolt Pattern (this is the number of wheel studs, and the spacing between them)
5x114.3 = 5 x 4.5" (other vehicles)
5x127 = 5 x 5" (Jeep JK's)

14 = offset (an 8.5" rim with 14 offset converts to 5.30" backspace)

Stock rims have around 6.25" backspace.
The typical recommendation for a 35x12.50 tire is a 4.5" backspace.
Tires mounted on these rims will be moved out less than an inch, so you might expect 35's to rub when you turn.

Good choice on the tire, I like mine. But, that specific size is E rated. Many people here consider E's to be a bit stiff for a JK, better for full size trucks. Can't say what 'your' opinion will be, so just a heads-up. (You can always run lower psi to soften them up a bit)

There are two threads stuck to the top of this Modified area, FAQ's and Thoughts On Lifts. If you haven't opened them, might not be wasted time.
