Default Towing popup camper questions

Have a 2013 jku with 3.73 gears 3.5" lift and 35x12.50 tires. I will be pulling a popup camper ( starcraft star shuttle 2104) approx 2000 lbs 200 miles to the mountains, most of the trip will be interstate. Just wondering if anyone else tows with setup and foresee's any problems. I know I need to install gears but this is last minute trip and do not have the time to get it done before we leave. Future plans include 4.88 or 4.56 gears. I'm concerned about overheating my trans did a test pull last night and it pulled fine just seemed to down shift at the slightest incline.

You should be fine. I use to tow a 2000 pound pop-up with my 2010 2dr with 3.73 gears, 1.5" lift with heavy bumpers and 32's. You have a lot more power and a factory transmission cooler which will go a long way when towing. I would take it easy on steep hills because that's where the tranny gets hot. I installed what is now the factory cooler on mine because of over heating issues. I towed down the highway with my a/c on while it was 100 degrees out and never had an issue. I know with mine I could smell the tranny burning before the hot oil light would come on. I don't know how you drive but take it easy. I had mine start to push me around a few times from wind or what not and it's a little scary!

Pulling is one issue, but breaking is another. If your pop-up has electric breaks install a controller that takes advantage of those breaks. My old Fleetwood E-2 had electric breaks and they made a giant difference

I have a 3.8 auto and tow in the 3-3.5k range on 10 hour trips, no issues other than the pos engine/transmission combo. With your 3.6 and better cooling from the factory, you won't have any issues. When you hit a hill --> manually downshift to keep the trans from automatically shifting up/down/up/down/etc/etc...

I have a '08 with 3.73 tires are 34x11.5-18 i put electric brakes on mine but i pull a 20' camper right 3400 lbs it pulls it the hill are tougher. I will be putting in 4.56 when I can . I'm going with 4.56 because the piñon gear is thicker on the shaft. I have more prob with the tranny wanting to heat up climbing than i do pulling. I have never had it overheat pulling my camper
