Transmission Overheating
This is odd to me. Typically (someone mentioned this already) you retain the stock cooler and splice the new/aftermarket cooler into the return line back to the trans. This way the fluid has a chance to start cooling as it goes through the radiator and the additional cooler cools it that much more. I'm betting the Ripp cooler doesn't have enough surface area by itself to keep the fluid cool.
Does it matter that the SC cooler is in front of the transmission cooler? That is the only thing I can think of. I may just try to connect them in series to see if it helps. I don't have much to lose. I called Ripp again yesterday, but they are shut down until next Monday. So I will try them again next week.

Just wanted to update the post. Since I connected the transmission coolers series I am now seeing transmission temperatures of 130-160. I also got my rig re-geared to 4.88 and now it drives much better. The new gears are also helping with keeping the strain on the transmission when climbing strep inclines.
Just saw your thread and wanted to let you know I had the same Hot Oil (trans) issues. The first additional trans cooler did the job, but when I added the RIPP then the cooler was to low and all air flow was blocked by the bumper and winch. I can tell everyone that when the Hot Oil light comes on the temp is 295. I had a complete build out of gears 4.56, lift 3.5 and tires 35 at the same time and had already had the light come on when it was stock. So, when it came on again with the additional cooler it was a surprise. Ended up working with JPI in Yucaipa and Stan put a bigger finned cooler behind the radiator so when the fan kicks on it all cools down. I also run a digital trans gauge so I know exactly where it is all the time.
Glad you found your fix.
