best way to trim fenders

The main thing is to take your time and it will come out just fine.

 

I used a utility knife with the fenders still on the body. Then took out the innder frame and used a jig saw.

 

Look up reds writeup...it is an excellent write up and very easy to follow. I was hesitant to use a sawzall at first, so I started with a jigsaw and then went at it with the sawzall. It cut through a lot cleaner and easier than I thought it would...like butta. Mine turned out great I think thanks to the write up on the forum.

 

i did the same. utility knife worked great. i freehanded mine (no tape lines to follow) so i very lightly slid the knife over the surface to make a few lines to see which one i liked most . once i made a decision, i just went back down the line of choice with a bit of pressure. it is easier to cut and more easily controlled to make several light passes (usually about 3) rather than trying to go all the way through in one pass. having the plastic warmed by the sun was also a big help. i did everything with the fenders on the jeep except for the substructure which i removed and cut with a dremel and a reciprocating saw.

 

I used a jig saw with a metal cutting blade. worked like a champ. then i knocked the edge bur off with a utility knife and then sanded it so the edges would roll/round off to make it easier for the edge guard to go on.

the trim, you should be able to find at any auto parts store.

 

I used a dermal also. I used the wheel for cutting plastic on the outer shell and it came out so good I won’t need the trim. I used my pneumatic cutter for the harder underneath part. My dermal is the rechargeable one and I have to recharge the battery some times and that is not what I want to do when working. But it is leaving good edge on the fender.

 

I used a peanut grinder. The rear I even left on the jeep. The front just have to come off.
