True 33" tire
iam getting ready to buy some 33" to put on my 17" rims. I like the nittos but i hear been reading some tires that are advertised as 33's aint really 33's so my question is who makes a true 33, can be bigger but not smaller. Thanks

No tire is going to measure its advertised size when mounted....none!
That being said certain manufacturers tires run smaller than others. I have Goodyear Duratracs and I have been very please that they only measure 32.25 when mounted which is a pretty damn good 33" tire. BFG KM2s especially in 35" size are notorious fro running a bit small, but they are great tires. Do some research. |

I started out with Nitto Terra Grapplers, 295/70.17, 33.3" x 11.50, I have them for sale now with over 80% tread left because I was so anxious to move up. Now on 315.70.17, 34.6x11.50 Hankook Dynapro MT's, these seem to measure out real close true to size. |

Agree. I have the dura tracks in a 33. Kicking myself for not going 35. I do love them but after a week or two u look at others that have 35 and u start wishing u would have went that route.
I haven't have my 33's a long time yet, but I think for some of us, make a great step towards going bigger later on... I plan on doing my lift soon and maybe next off road season ill think about 35's The 33's were great off road and my favorite local trails were easier and when aired down the ride was great Goodyear Duratracs 285/70/17's Matthew |
The Nittos actually run to size if not bigger than advertised. From experience

If you want a 'true' 33, try to get one that comes in a domestic size and 12.5 wide. So assuming you want a 17" wheel, get a tire that is 33 X 12.5 X 17. Many of the Metric sizes are not as tall and noticeably more narrow. You can plug the metric sizes into a tire size calculator to get a better idea.

My Cepek FC-II's are aaaalmost a full 33. Not quite though. I spent a while looking at 33's because I wasn't going right to 35's. The Cooper STT's I had on my TJ ran a little small. Cooper makes Mickey Thompson and Dick Cepek and I think all of theirs run small (from what I've seen when shopping around). Toyo makes Nitto and I think they both run more true to size. Goodyear has a Kevlar MT that's just over 33 too. Those were all the brands I shopped with.
Cepek's website says the 33x12.5x17 are 32.6 and I believe it. I'm happy with them though for whatever it's worth. This is on a 2" kit. And the 9 on the tape measure would've been 33". Good luck. |

I agree. My other thing that held me back was I have 3.21 gears. But on this note my buddy has the cod mw3 rubicon 4dr. With. Stock 32's. i told him if he went up it would be useless pretty much to go 33. And does look small on 4dr. If I could do it again and had 4dr I'd jump to 35 with at least 3.73 or 4.10

BFG KM2 305/70/R17 on 17x9in wheel = 33.5 x12 w 30psi. Here's mine w 2.5 RK lift. BTW, a KM2 35x12.5/R17 measures so close to my 305/70/r17's, there is no visable difference w the naked eye. Parked beside a JK last week and would have swore he had the same size as I untill I read his tire size. Just thought I'd share this.

Hankook Dynapro M/T 285/70/17 ....... true 33 inch tire. I have these tires and I love them. I'm waiting for them to wear out so I can get the 35's.
