Default True 33" tires

I would like to get a true 33" tire. That means when all is said and done they measure out to 33" on my rig. Does anyone have a true 33" tire that they can recommend? What brands run true to their manufacturing specs? I have been looking at the duratracs and finding out that the 315/70/r17 actually run 33.5-34 and not the 34.4 that they advertise. Which means the 285/70/r17 would not run 33" like they advertise. Any info would be great.

Thanks

I have Toyo AT IIs 285/75/17 that measure 33.1 great tires look cool and are very quite. In my tire buying experience I have found that the factory specs are way off. Ask forum members to measure for you. Good luck!

Thanks.

Yeah, I have a coworker that has Kumho 33x12.5x17 and they measure out to be 31.5" and don't look that great besides being an AT tire. They look small. I would love to go to a 35" tire but don't want to spend all the money on the extras that go along with 35"s . It's a daily driver with a little trail riding. I have a leveling kit and don't want to upgrade right now. It sounds like Toyo and nitto run pretty true to the manufacturers size.

Thanks again

Lots of threads around on this topic. The measurements posted on tire manufacturer websites are usually unmounted. My 285/70/17 measures 32.2" mounted. bsmarble has 285/75/17 so he gains the extra inch to bring him to 33.

I currently have the duratrac 285/70r17s and they measure in around 31.75. Keep in mind that what a tire measures on one person's rig may not be the same as what it will measure on your rig... depending on psi, wheel width, and weight of rig. I'm stepping up to the 315/70 /17 duratracs next week and can't wait. Its a GREAT tire! They do run a bit shorter than some other options but are also wider than a lot of other options. So depends on what you like. Also, in regards to "runnin small" we are talking about less than a half inch usually which is hardly noticeable unless you are comparing side by side

I too have been researching which "33's" may actually yield no less than 33", once on the jeep (I deduct 1" from the advertised O.D. This is all I found so far:
  • Kelly Safari TSR, 315/70-17, advertised OD = 34.4, yield OD = 33.4
  • Goodyear Wrangler MT/R Kevlar, 305/70-17, advertised OD = 34.1, yield OD = 33.1
  • Toyo Open Country MT, 34 x 11.5-17, advertised OD = 34.1, yield OD = 33.1
  • Nitto Trail Grappler MT, 285/75-17, advertised OD = 34.09, yield OD = 33.09
  • Maxxis Bighorn, 305/70/17, Advertised OD = 34, yield OD = 33 (I'm leaning to these)

All tire diameters are at a specific rim width... hard to know what the diameter will be on other widths, narrower rims will run taller, and wider will run shorter, but how much is hard to determine until they are mounted.

I have the Toyo At2 -285/75-17 on 9.5 Pintlers and they are right at 33" loaded , they were a little shy of 33.5" or so off the vehicle as best as I could measure. The measured rim is 8" and diameter 33.9" .
