Vibrations
Have 4" teraflex lcg lift, Tom woods shafts, 5:13 gears, elect rubicon lockers, 37" tires. While driving I start getting vibration at 50 mph & + but not bad and it seems to get less after 60 mph any ideas on what's going on or is this common?
6 speed & yes even at coast Just in 50s. Below 50 can't feel. 50 to 60 vibration but noticed unless radio is down you can slightly hear it & if head is on head rest slightly feel it. Above 60 & it seems to start to go away
This is going to be long...
If it's a shimmy in the steering wheel, it WILL become progressive if the cause is with suspension or steering, possible early deathwobble or like symptoms. I'm going thru the same thing. Deathwobble is caused by the trackbar only. With it not being tight or the bolt holes have wollered out not holding the bar in place.
The steering shimmy that I have (AKA bumpsteer) is alot harder to find. You find it by starting on one end and work your way to the end......... 1)The jeep jk steering gearbox are plane and simple shit. There can be so much play in the bottom pitman shaft that it can't hold your pitman arm still thus getting deathwobble like symptoms, but not actully deathwobble. Inspect the play to see if your steering gear box is bad.
2) your ball joints could be going bad. Inspect for play. Check upper and lowers.
3) steering stabilizer. These can only mask the true problem. Serious deathwobble or deathwobble symptoms can easily blow any stabilizer. I'm on my 3rd one.
4) check trackbar. Bolts Should be at 125 foot pounds on each end. Look for missing paint where bolt go thru brackets to see if it's wearing an ovaled hole. Better yet remove bolts an inspect for any damage. make sure trackbar urethane bushings aren't dry rotted out or half gone.
5) if all ^stated above^ checks ok, have a local shop re-balance your tires.
6) all that doesn't work, I'll be scratching my head :eek
My jeep has a bad steering gearbox. There is fluid oozing from the side and fluid sitting on top. I'm just not that hot to buy a new box and have that one go out worse that it is now. Hope all this helps.

What about u-joints in shafts would that make vibrate the same way. I got it alinement done and started down the road at 45 mph it would vibrate bad so took it back and told them something wasn't right. He said he put same specs that it calls ( stock Tj ) for and ask if my jeep was a Tj ( really a mechanic asked me this ) I said no it's a jk unlimited and he replied with I though 2 doors were jks. So I looked at it when the put it on the lift to check alinement and I could clearly see the front shaft knuckle where hitting when being turned I even had to point out problem. So now the this is starting to vibrate 4 months after alinement if thinking that it may have pit to much stress on my you joint where the knuckle was hitting
What's the chance of that being it ?

had the same issue. top mounts of front shocks kept coming loose, and my wheel and tire guy, apparently was chewing his gum too loud, when i told him to take the retaining washers off the lugs before putting the new wheels and tires on. eventually got to the point where I was almost afraid to drive it, but now it runs like it's been buttered.
