Wheel spacer install

This is from another post I saw in the write-up forum:

I plan on installing 1.5" Spidertrax wheel spacers this weekend, but if I install one wheel at a time, there should be no need to hit the brakes when tightening.

I was going to rotate my tires at the same time and start at the rear drivers side and move to front drivers, then rear passenger, then front passenger. Doing one wheel at a time (with one tire from each axle on the ground at all times) should lock the wheel that's in the air and I can tighten to specs, right?

Am I missing something here? Also, are folks using red or blue lock-tite? I was planning on using blue, but I've seen some use red. I was going to tighten to 105 ft/lbs, then re-check after 100 miles (and at every rotation) at 100 ft/lbs so I don't "break the lock-tite seal."

I'll be sure to post before and after pics this weekend.

Thanks.

just pop it in 4x4 and youll be fine. EDIT: I see you have a manual trans, also keep it in gear.

thats what I did and had no issues with anything turning.. and make sure to remove those clips that hold on the rotor... oh and torque down those spacers.

have a good 4th

Yeah, I was going to put it in 4HI and leave it in 1st gear with the e-brake engaged. I think that should be enough.

Are the rotor clips difficult to remove? I figured needle-nose pliers should do the trick.

Thanks!

believe it or not, I only removed them from one wheel assembly, the last one i did.. but I have since removed my wheels about 5 times and rechecked the torque to find them being perfect.. I dont know if it is necessary to remove them, but the instructions say to. and I used a flad head screw driver to loosen them up then yanked them off with needle nose pliers, took about 15 seconds each

Cool. Can't wait!

Although I just learned that UPS may not come today as originally scheduled due to an "exception"!? Adverse Weather Conditions in Greensboro, NC on 6/30 caused my wheel spacers to be delayed until who knows when. Sad part is I live 30 minutes from Greensboro, NC and it was a beautiful day on 6/30! Adverse weather my a$$!!!!!!

Spidertrax spacers have a recess on the holes on the back side. So the spacers will sit flush even if you leave the clips on. I asked the tire guy about them and he said the retainers are only needed to keep the rotor from falling off at the assembly plant. So I guess either way works.

Easy install. They should come with some red loctite in a little tube. And instruction for torquing. I love mine. I decided against center caps on my soft 8s so you can see the pretty blue ring. :)

Don't use too much

When I installed my spacers I used red thread locking compound( not Loctite- I know-I know ). I really didn't think I used too much, HOWEVER it must not take hardly any at all. My wheels bled the stuff all over them for about 2 weeks, and its a pain in the butt to clean off. Learn from MY experience- don't use too much threadlock......:dontknow2:
