Default Where are the gears?

Can anyone point me to a gear installer in southern Michigan? It's time to get the 5:38's and so far prices seem out of line from what I've seen talked about on this forum.
Happy Trails everyone!

Prices vary wildly by area. It seems that east coast is quite a bit more than west coast, and north is more expensive than south. Your best bet is to just call around to all of the 4x4 and drivetrin shops you can find, touch base with any 4wheel drive clubs in your area, post in the staging area for your neck of the woods.

And don't just jump on the lowest price you find, be sure to get references and a good understanding of their warranty. You'll want to know that the shop will take care of you if there is a problem.

And since you have a Rubi, if you decide to keep you stock e-lockers, make sure the people doing the install have experience with them. There are a ton of horror story threads out here from people that got their Rubi's back with non-working e-lockers due to a screwed up gear install.

I agree with everyone else. I live in Utah, and when I had my 2009 I checked everyone out in the area that had a good reputation for gear work, and oddly enough I ended up at my JK dealer who did a great job, full warranty, and for $200.00 less than all the other shops. Never had a problem with that rig for the whole time I owned it.

You are lucky! My dealer told me that my JK would be undriveable on the road with 5.13's and my 35's! LOL!!! I kindly withdrew my request for information on their re-gearing expertise.

From other threads I have read, Jeeperz Creeperz in Wyandotte and Unlimited Off Road Centers in Fenton seem to be popular. I have not dealt with either of them personally but they seem to be the names that come up most for Michigan. AEV also has a new conversion center in Wixom.

Post up anything that you find out as I will hopefully be needing a gear installer in a few years for my build and look forward to any input/thoughts.

Good call. Unfortunately, there are a lot of shops out there that have no experience with JK's, and end up talking people into spending a ton of money on under-gearing. I would be seriously pissed off to have my trusted driveline shop talk me into 4.56's or 4.88's for my auto...

op i don't know how far you are from fort wayne indaina but if your willing to drive over you can get a great deal. 175 bucks a axle and includes your fluid for break in and rtv. you just bring the gears and overhaul kits. the place is called get bent customs and the guy's name is matt and they do great work. if you posted up in the great lakes section this shop is well know and has a good reputation as well. 350 for gears is a smoken deal and the gear guy (seth) works for dana as well. not much of a shop but great work and better than fair price. i had mine done there as well as 5 or 6 of my buddies. i drove 4 hours just to get there. good luck
